Contra Notion to Play for Independence Day Dance

Contras, Squares, Winders, Polkas, Special Children's Dance


SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Contra Notion will play for the old-time Dance as part of San Diego's Independence Day celebration.

     Where: San Diego Old Town State Park
     When: July 4, 2019, 1-3 p.m.


contra notion - Ron Nelson, Christine Ouang, Archie Breeden Larry Edwards Dressed in period garb, Larry "Friar" Edwards, fiddle, Archie Breeden, guitar, and Christine Ouang, banjo, will play the dance tunes of 18th and 19th century America to the lively steps of Ron Nelson, caller.

All of the dances are taught, so don't fret if you haven't done this since junior high school. It's fun for the entire family.

Come join the frolic, which includes a full day of celebratory activities at San Diego's historic Old Town.

Larry Edwards is a historical reenactor and performs with the band Heritage as well as the Corps of Rediscovery, which appear regularly at San Diego-area mountain man rendezvous as well as Old Town San Diego, historical encampments, schools, museums, festivals, fairs and special events.

dancers Heritage captures the music of early America on its recent recording, The Musical History Tour. The music CD features the ballads and toe-tapping dance tunes that livened up social gatherings on the waterfront, in the back woods and along the expanding frontier.

The Corps of Rediscovery is a group of dedicated living-history reenactors specializing in the time period 1740 to 1840.
