Writing Workshop: It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

SAN DIEGO, Calif. Book editor and author Larry Edwards will lead the second offering in the "Write to Win!" series of writing workshops sponsored by the San Diego Book Awards Assn., set for Saturday, Nov. 19.

"We're going to cover a lot of ground at a fast pace, but this is going to be fun," said Edwards, a judge for SDBAA's unpublished novel category.
Titled "It Was a Dark and Stormy Night," the workshop will help participants improve the quality of their writing, whether for novel, memoir, or short story. The session will cover narrative voice, dramatic scenes, character development, word selection, sentence structure, and story arcs. Participants are encouraged to bring a sample of their writing to work on during the class.

Cost: $20 if paid by Nov. 17, $25 afterward.

For more than twenty years, through its annual book awards event, the San Diego Book Awards has honored unpublished manuscripts by San Diego County residents. This year, the SDBAA is holding workshops that focus on writing tips to maximize a writer's chances of becoming an awards finalist.

Edwards edits fiction and nonfiction books, and consults with authors regarding their publishing options. He is an award-winning investigative journalist, the author of two books as well as two published short stories, and a former newspaper and magazine editor. He teaches writing and publishing workshops, and is a judge for the San Diego Book Awards.
