Award-winning San Diego Author
Releases Debut Novel
Book release: Chariot Canyon: A Rent Beacham Mystery by award-winning author and Pulitzer Prize nominee Larry M. Edwards.
When investigative journalist Rent Beacham looks into reports of welfare/EBT fraud, he has no clue his investigation not only will take him into a remote, semi-lawless area of San Diego County, but that a twist of fate will give his probe a more personal — and deadly — nature than he ever imagined.
As Rent digs deeper, he suspects a sinister criminal enterprise lies behind the fraudulent activity. When horseback riders discover human remains at an abandoned gold mine in historic Chariot Canyon, a murder investigation increases the complexity—and danger—of Rent’s attempt to uncover the truth.
While this story is fiction, the fraud at the heart of this story is not. Join investigative journalist Rent Beacham as his deep dive into welfare/EBT fraud drags him into the dark depths of Chariot Canyon.
"I had fun writing this book because it allowed me to research and write what I believe is an important non-fiction investigative news story placed within a fictional framework and the freedom that offers for creative expression," Edwards said.
Read the first chapter: Rent Beacham cursed himself as he struggled to block all thoughts of immediate danger and recall the irony of how a seemingly innocent decision to take a soothing drive to the mountains led him to his lightless prison. . . .
